1880 Union Hotel Los Alamos, CA

The 1880 Union Hotel is my kind of place and this amazing couple are my kind of people - authentic, kickback, and fun loving. These two chose wisely for their wedding destination.

Los Alamos, CA is a small Santa Ynez Valley town just 45 minutes north of Santa Barbara and 140 miles north of Los Angeles. I love small towns. I like the quiet streets, the simple landscape, and the slow pace.  Something in me feels at home...more myself. I can walk and think.

The 1880 Union Hotel is like taking a step back in time. The saloon, old wood floors, wall portraits, wallpaper, and decor are perfect. It's honest. Authentic simplicity is beautiful to me. It's real. It's like an old soul that doesn't hide anything and has stories to tell. I want to pull up a chair and listen. It is strange to think about a hotel this way.

On the streets near the 1880 Union Hotel you can find art galleries, a bakery, bed & breakfast, some eateries and tasting rooms.  If you are traveling on Highway 101 make a quick detour. It is only a minute or two off the highway.

Antasia

This is Rocco. I took his portrait.

A Quick story:

When I was six years old, I went into the backyard not knowing my mom had gotten us a puppy. Unknown to me, I walked to the backyard to play. Our grass needed mowing. I saw something moving in it and my imagination said it was a wild and viscous raccoon. I ran to the fence and climbed up to get out of reach. Then a small puppy came running out.

It was still a raccoon. A dograccoon and just a vicious. I stayed up on the fence for 20 minutes. The puppy jumped and wagged her tail trying to reach me. I finally came down and we made a friendship. She was kind, loyal, and loving.

When a new person came to the house, she tracked my little brother down, knocked him over, then sat nearly on top of him watching the guests until she had a better feeling about them. Once she determined they were friendly, playtime resumed.

She also knocked me out once. She was a year older and full grown. She chased me around the yard trying to get my shoe laces. We played it all the time. It was a late Saturday morning. Antasia and I ran around the yard playing the shoelace game. I tripped and hit my face on her back. It knocked me out. I woke up lying face up in the grass with my parents slapping on my cheeks trying to get me to wake up. She was a good dog. She was licking my face.

Taking a photo of this little guy brought that memory back. I loved that dog.

Outdoor Adventure and Family Photography

I am a family photographer; I also love being outside. When I have an opportunity to combine the two I am stoked.

This amazing family knows how to get outside. We combined a family shoot with a little outdoor fun. Taken in Los Osos, CA

San Luis Obispo, CA - Just for Fun

I love giving and thoughtful people. Kindness makes me smile. These two amazing people allowed me to photograph them while hiking on a cold and windy spring day. We hiked, captured great light, talked, and made some pictures.

I wasn't going to post this, but it was fun and I don't want the images hidden in a file somewhere.

This was shot above Laguna Lake in San Luis Obispo, CA. It was just us and the sun.

Big Sur,

I love Big Sur. I live so close, yet rarely get there enough. My trips to Big Sur are never a disappointment. Piedras Blancas Light Station, Ragged Point, Gorda, Bir Sur Cafe, and all the turnouts along the way. I made it a point to stop at as many turnouts as I could.

Almost all the photos in this post are a result of pulling over into a turnout, stopping the car, and taking in the views. The next time you drive through Big Sur to Carmel or from Monterey to San Luis Obispo, add more time your schedule and stop...a lot. It will be worth it.

This guys VW Bus was interesting.

One of my favorite views.

Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park.

Big Sur Bakery and Restaurant. A must stop. On a pack backing trip to Big Sur two years ago, I  had a five hour hike out. It was five hours of a freezing down pour. I was 100% wet - clothes, socks, shoes, everything. I was hungry and wanted to get warm. This place was my first priority. I don't remember what I ate, but it was the best I ever had.

Get Married in San Luis Obispo County.

San Luis Obispo from Terrace Hill

San Luis Obispo from Terrace Hill

San Luis Obispo County California is rad! I love living here. It has beaches, miles of open space for hiking and biking, wineries, great food, beautiful weather, charming pedestrian friendly city streets, and happy people. When you love where you live, it hard to not be happy. Oprah named San Luis Obispo the Happiest City in America. She knows what’s going on.

I live and have my photography business here because I love the central coast and I love the people I meet. They are my clients, my friends, and my family. We see each other on the trails, at the beach, or walking the streets. The entire county feels like one degree of separation. I think everyone here knows Kevin Bacon.

San Luis Obispo is located midway between San Francisco and Los Angeles - two of the best cities in the world. San Luis Obispo County is the perfect escape. It has become a world class destination wedding location. From beach side weddings, to vineyards, to country ranches, there is a wedding location for everyone.

Check out a few of these locations. Want a sea side wedding?  The Cliffs Resort, the Inn at Morro Bay, or the Cambria Pines Lodge. The Loge is not sea side. Many people get married on the beach then hold the reception at the Lodge. Looking for a ranch/country feel to your wedding? Holland Ranch , Green Gate Ranch and Vineyard or the historic Santa Margarita Ranch. Maybe a wine and vineyard wedding is your style? Check out Justin Winery, Vina Robles, or Edna Valley Vineyard. There are so many more.

If you are looking for a place to get married, check out all San Luis Obispo has to offer. If you have any questions please contact me. I am always happy to help you get what you need.

Happy travels and enjoy your Love!

Waves

I love the lines of a wave against a backdrop of sky and infinite distance moving quietly to shore.
